FAQ

Nose Job Surgery in Chicago Nose Jobs ~ Rhinoplasty

1.  What is a Rhinoplasty?  ("nose surgery")

Rhinoplasty surgery or nose jobs are performed by trained nose surgeons in Chicago.  It is a cosmetic chicago nose surgery to improve the shape of the nose.  It is sometimes combined with functional nasal surgery to improve nasal breathing.  Dr. Thomas feels it is important to individualize the nose so it may fit the patient's facial features, ethnicity and gender.

2.  Does insurance pay for surgery at all?

Insurances pay for functional components of the surgery to improve breathing.  Repair of nasal fractures are also frequently covered by insurance.  Though insurances do not cover cosmetic procedures, many patients elect to have their functional and cosmetic surgeries performed at the same time, shortening overall recovery, and saving some expense.

3. Is it painful?

Most patients are pleasantly surprised with the slight discomfort after surgery.  If there happens to be a bit more discomfort, medication is readily available to subside the pain.

4. Will my nose be packed?

Nasal packing, if used, is usually only applied on the night of the surgery.  The packing is then quickly removed the next morning.

5.  What kind of Anesthesia do I need?

General anesthesia is used for a majority of rhinoplasty surgeries.  General anesthesia allows the patient to be comfortable and fully monitored for the greatest safety.  Occasionally, minor nasal procedures, such as small adjustments, can be performed under sedation or local anesthesia.

6. What is the recovery period?

Most people return to normal work, school, or social activities in 2 weeks.  Tiny changes and improvements continue for 8-12 months.

7.  Will everyone know that I had my nose done?

The ideal result corrects aesthetic problems and allows the nose to fit the face in a natural, non-surgical appearing fashion.
