Before the procedure begins, your skin is thoroughly cleansed and a topical or local anesthetic is applied to keep you comfortable. Dr. Thomas will then use a high-energy laser to expose the deep layer (dermis) of your skin to heat. The heat will gently peel away the outer layer of your skin (epidermis) and stimulate collagen formation. This triggers your skin's natural healing abilities so that a new layer of skin is generated. The new layer of skin will appear smoother and firmer than before with improved elasticity and composition.
Following treatment, an ointment is applied for one week to help your skin heal. It is important that during this time you use sunscreen to protect the new layer of skin. You will notice gradual improvements in your skin. Typically, the results last for several years.
